Heath Barnes- Republican Candidate for State Delegate in District 4
A Voice For All In Annapolis
Heath was raised in a small farming community in Southwest Missouri, the grandson of two Veterans. He settled in Woodsboro, MD several years ago after meeting his spouse who is a Woodsboro native whose family has been in Frederick County for 10 generations. Although Heath is not a Maryland native he instantly fell in love with state and particularly the town of Woodsboro, and currently serves as the Burgess (Mayor) of the town. When his job relocated him to Maryland several years ago, he knew this is where he wanted to reside and one day raise a family. Heath was and is still fascinated by the rich culture and history that the state and in particular Frederick county possess. He wants to help preserve this charm for generations to come while also working to keep Maryland the free state.
In Woodsboro Heath is an active member of the Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Woodsboro American Legion where he is a member of the Sons of the American Legion chapter. Heath is also a member of the Glade Valley Lions Club, the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Department, and the Frederick County Farm Bureau. Heath also serves on the board of the Frederick County Republican Club.
Heath is the oldest of 5 siblings and is often heard talking about his 9 nephews and nieces who are his biggest pride and joy. He enjoys having them come and visit during the summers with him in Maryland and showing them around the area.
Heath has shown great leadership throughout his personal & professional career including his current role as Mayor of Woodsboro, MD. Heath is a strong voice for all his constituents regardless of their background or differences, and will continue to use that strong voice in Annapolis. Heath is dedicated to expanding the Republican Party into a “big tent” party and understands we win by addition not subtraction.
Family, both his and his in-laws are very important to Heath and that is one of the main reasons he is running for office, to make the state an even better place for them to live and raise their families. Heath enjoys travelling, cooking family dinners, grilling, exploring American historical sites, and celebrating the holidays (especially Christmas where he volunteers each year to play Santa for several different organizations to help children in need).
Heath never meets a stranger and everyone that knows him knows that his door is always wide open. There are very few weekends in the summer that he doesn’t have neighbors, friends, or family over in the pool where typically he is behind the grill preparing lunch for them all.
At the age of 16 Heath found himself living on his own after his parents divorced. Heath helped to guide his younger siblings while finishing High School and working full time. At the age of 22 Heath knew he wanted more and begin college where he put himself through a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Southeastern Louisiana University, a MS in Human Resource Development from Pittsburg State University, and a MBA from Salem International University. Heath has worked in Human Resources at several large corporations for the last 15 years. His experience in working with and assisting people from diverse backgrounds as well as his experience being the Burgess of Woodsboro will contribute to his success as your next State Delegate.
